Surgeon to the stars applying for a medical licence to practice once a month in Dubai
US cosmetic surgeon to the stars Jason Diamond is coming to Dubai next week to apply for a licence to practice in the emirates.
The Gulf region’s cosmetic surgery industry is thriving, with medical tourism in the UAE alone expected to generate $1.9bn this year, according to figures from the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In Saudi Arabia, where women cover from head to toe, the appetite for looking good is strong. According to figures quoted by the Financial Times, last year women in the kingdom spent almost SR9bn ($2.4bn) on cosmetics – among the highest per capita sums in the world – and analysts forecast this to grow by 11 percent this year.
Meanwhile, in the wider Middle East region the popularity for plastic surgery in Lebanon has encouraged some local lenders to offer $1,000 to $5,000 personal plastic surgery loans.
Diamond, who has appeared on the US television series ‘Doctor 90210’, is applying for a licence to practice once a month at the American British Surgical and Medical Centre in Dubai.
The surgeon, who likes to refer to himself as the Donald Trump of plastic surgery, specialises in facial surgery, according to the TV show’s website.
