Virtual desktops get real

NComputer from the UK is at this year's GITEX Technology Week to promote its desktop virtualisation solution that could clear the office floor of computer boxes.

NComputer from the UK is at this year's GITEX Technology Week to promote its desktop virtualisation solution that could clear the office floor of computer boxes.

Vice president Frank Coggrave says: "Desktop virtualisations is a very trendy name for taking one computer and allowing several people to share it."

"We can transform a cheap standard computer into four separate stations, all with their own individual uses and their own desktop views."

The product is popular among companies looking to reduce energy costs and improve security on their office networks.

"There are three reasons to buy our product. First, as opposed to having ten computers in the office, people can use our devices, which helps save costs during critical technology acquisitions," says Coggrave.

"Secondly, it can save businesses money through reduced power usage; and finally we can maintain every desktop from the one computer, which is far better for organisational security.

"Our devices are much cheaper than traditional computers, both in the long term and short term, and where a computer uses 100-150 watts, ours uses just between 1-5 watts."

Coggrave says they have had a successful GITEX, "The region is the gateway to other markets nearby. We've had people from Morocco, Algeria, and Lebanon visits us," he says.
