New software products to improve visibility and management of virtual environments from EMC
EMC today announced the launch of two new products to help organizations to better understand and manage virtualized environments created using the popular VMware virtualization platform.
The two products - EMC Smarts Application Discovery Manager 6.0 (ADM) and IT Compliance Analyzer Application Edition 1.1 - have been designed to give more visibility into physical and virtual server environments, and to enable companies to impose policies on virtual environments that may otherwise not be managed properly.
Chris Gahagan, senior vice president, resource management software said: "There are important benefits of virtualization, but it also gives additional challenges, where you have no full insight into where applications are deployed, and maintaining an environment where understanding application deployment and meeting best practices is very difficult.
"What we are trying to add with these two products is to give insight into how the [computing] environment is configured and how the environment is changing, and then give a view into best practices for managing that," he added.
Smarts ADM 6.0 uses a ‘virtual listener' which monitors application traffic across the VMware Virtual Switch to get real time visibility of the relationships between virtual machines, for better planning of recovery services.
With the IT Compliance Analyzer, the user then has much greater control over those environments, to enable compliance to best practices and regulatory requirements.
EMC will initially introduce the new applications to work with its VMware virtualization solution, but plans to extend it to other virtualization solutions in future. For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
