Vista to let users climb OS ladder

Microsoft has confirmed that an upgrade feature dubbed ‘Windows Anytime Upgrade’ will be present in its upcoming Vista operating system (OS).

Microsoft has confirmed that an upgrade feature dubbed ‘Windows Anytime Upgrade’ will be present in its upcoming Vista operating system (OS).

According to online reports, the new feature will allow Vista Home Basic users to upgrade to Vista Home Premium or Home Ultimate using their original installation disc and the web.

Users of the feature will first be forwarded to one of Microsoft’s partner websites where they can purchase the upgrade and software licence. Vista users will then have to install the licence and insert their original Windows Vista installation CD to complete the upgrade process.

The ‘Windows Anytime Upgrade’ feature is not currently part of Microsoft’s February Community Technology Preview, though it will be part of the firm’s final Vista release expected in the second half of this year.
