Voice and text messaging will still available for visitors but data services will be halted - report
Australia’s third largest mobile telecommunications provider will suspend its customers from data roaming in the UAE from January 1.
Australian Business Traveller reports that Vodafone Australia’s customers will not be able to use smartphone data roaming “due to a change in the arrangements with our roaming partners,” a spokesperson for the telco said. Voice and text messaging services will still be available, however.
The current agreement with UAE mobile network operators expires at the end of this year, and company officials have yet to agree on terms and cost of new contracts.
“We apologise for this inconvenience and recommend customers use available wi-fi services from their devices,” the spokesperson said.
Vodafone Australia has five million subscribers, making it the third largest operator in the country behind Telstra (16 million) and Optus (9.4 million).
