Vodafone Qatar to start final tests on new service

1,000 volunteers sought to road test network as telecom giant prepares for launch.

One thousand people will be chosen to 'test drive' the new Vodafone Qatar network when it is officially switched on in March.

The company will conduct a limited two month long BETA trial, using volunteers to get feedback before putting the service live to customers later in 2009.

“There will be 1,000 people taking part in our BETA trial. We want a wide sample as possible reflective of the rich diverse society in Qatar, different ages, men and women,” a spokeswoman said in comments published by The Peninsula on Thursday.

The trial is designed to highlight any problems with the service and get feedback before rolling it out to all customers.

In a statement, the company added: “Starting from February 15, Vodafone will be asking people interested in taking part in a BETA trial to go to our website www.vodafone.com.qa and register their details.

“The BETA trial will start on March 1 and last for approximately two months.”

Vodafone also announced that its retail outlets in Qatar will start selling in May ready for the roll out of the service but did not give a date for the roll out.
