Wamda and Expo 2020 Dubai organised a summit on Thursday to identify opportunities for collaboration and growth between large corporations and start-ups across the MENA region.
The Collaborative Entrepreneurship Summit, which was held at the Burj Khalifa, was attended by more than 400 regional and global entrepreneurs, business leaders, influencers and experts.
Described as an outcome-oriented event, the summit aimed at exploring the potential of Collaborative Entrepreneurship (CE) – nurturing greater synergies between established businesses and start-ups to create meaningful partnerships and contribute to the growth of the regional economies.
In her welcome address, Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Bureau Expo Dubai 2020, said: “Today, we aim to create dozens of new networking opportunities between corporate executives and start-ups, and to gain a clear understanding of how Collaborative Entrepreneurship can help scale-up smaller businesses and re-energise and ‘re-innovate’ larger ones.
“By bringing the concept of Collaborative Entrepreneurship to the region, we are clearly demonstrating just how powerful Expo 2020 Dubai can be in convening diverse audiences to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.”
Collaborative Entrepreneurship (CE) is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the Gulf region. It enables large corporations to provide start-ups with the platforms needed for them to scale and spread their services and technologies. In addition, the initiative further supports start-ups to help their corporate partners learn how to adapt to new business models and opportunities.
The latest Wamda and Dubai Expo 2020 initiative is based on the findings of a Wamda Research Lab report, which was prepared on the basis of interviews with more than 120 business leaders and over 800 start-ups. The report is available on a dedicated website – www.coentrepreneurship.com
The Summit complements Expo 2020 Dubai’s ongoing Business Connect programme, a series of workshops to engage the business community and discuss the opportunities available to them as a result of hosting Expo 2020.
Prominent business leaders and start-up founders from across the region are invited to join the Collaborative Entrepreneurship initiative. For all the latest business news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
