Citizen says it plans to open at least 70 new outlets in the two Gulf retail markets
Luxury watch maker Citizen plans to open at least 70 new outlets in the Gulf by 2013, its regional manager said on Saturday.
Noboru Yamaguchi, general manager of the Middle East office of Citizen Watches Gulf Co, said: "The company plans to open several more points of sale in both the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
"In total we plan to add 20 more stores in UAE and 50 stores in Saudi Arabia by 2013."
He added that the company had opened a total of eight stores in the region this year.
His comments came in a statement announcing the launch of the new Citizen "Eco-Drive satellite WAVE" watch at Dubai Mall.
The limited edition has only 990 pieces available worldwide and keeps time using 24 navigation satellites that orbit the earth.
In November, Swiss premium watchmaker Fortis announced plans to establish a regional HQ in Dubai by the end of the year, with exclusive boutiques to follow across the region.
Mahesh Shahani, brand director, Fortis Middle East, said going forward, Fortis will be looking at establishing retail boutiques across the region's markets which will "act as a one-stop shop for the brand".
The GCC and the Middle East will be focus markets for Fortis Middle East, he added.
