From bad posture to numb legs, office jobs are the worst for your health. But these gadgets will make your ordeal that little bit better
1. I don’t want crumbs
If you don’t have the luxury of taking two hour lunches in DIFC then you need this mini desktop vacuum in your life. Having a sandwich at your desk? This little guy will take care of the crumbs.
The E Ecsem portable vacuum comes in a cute beetle ladybug shape and can take care of dirt caused by an eraser and dust on the office table or keyboard, but is also used to clean cigarette ash in car interiors – all for just $9.99; plus, it comes in two colours. What more could you ask for?
2. Give me a clean break
If the vacuum doesn’t do the trick for your dusty keyboard, the ColorCoral biodegradable cleaning gel will. It cleans parts of your keyboard that are almost impossible to get to yet it’s not sticky and smells like lemon.
Take a piece of it and press slightly on the keyboard surface before pulling it slowly as it carries away the dust; sounds like magic but it works. It can also be used to clean car vents, cameras, printers, cell phones and calculators, and is priced at just $11 at Amazon.
3. Never slouch again
It’s been around for a while but it’s recently gained popularity in the Middle East as more people look to improve their posture. We’re talking about the Lumo Lift, the first wearable posture-tracking gadget which vibrates when you slouch and reminds you to sit straighter and stand taller. It’s perfect for long office days spent unconsciously slouching.
It’s also believed to reduce back and neck pain, improve your mood and reduce stress. Make sure it operates with your iOS or Android before buying it at Amazon or Desert Cart for around $200 give or take.
4. Bye, bye, bye
How many times have you spilled your coffee on your keyboard, your suit or even budget spreadsheets you’ve spent hours working on? Well say hello to your new best friend and bye, bye, bye to spills. We discovered this gem of a mug a couple of weeks ago and we’ve been obsessed ever since.
The Mighty Mug was founded to stop spills before they happen as it’s created with a patented smart grip which allows it to grip to your desk when hit. Its double wall stainless steel interior also keeps your drink hot for up to 6 hours and cold for 24 hours. It’s even leak proof, so you can throw it in your bag if you’re on the go. Get yours at any Virgin Megastore for a starting price of just $20.
5. Going the extra mile
What better than an under-desk elliptical to keep you sane and healthy on days when you’re stuck to your desk? The DeskCycle Desk Exercise Bike-Pedal Exerciser has over 1,500 five-star reviews on Amazon and while it comes at a slightly hefty price tag of $159, it’s worth every penny, and so is your health.
The exerciser not only improves your blood circulation, mood and posture, but the discreet machine has eight levels of resistance so it can seriously enhance your figure depending on your committed you are. Some users even claim to pedal 25-40 miles a day without even thinking about it.
6. All of the lights
Lights, computer, eyelid contraction: that’s what happens when you spend too much time staring at screens. That’s why you need to get yourself blue-light-blocking glasses. We had dry eyes for hours on end thanks to digital eye strain and sitting in front of a computer for too long.
The glasses are priced as low as $30 on Amazon and they make a big difference. Pair them with eye drops for maximum relief and protection against screen time. Another tip is to look away from the screen every 15 minutes to give your eyes a rest.
7. Drink it like it’s hot
Do you ever get that first sweet cup of morning coffee only to get calls and meeting requests until it’s too cold to drink? Well you don’t have to ever have a cold coffee – or worse, reheated coffee - again with Mr. Coffee’s mug warmer. Keep your hot drinks hot – you deserve at least that. It’s available at Amazon for just $11.
