Westin debuts in the UAE

Starwood Hotels expands in the Middle East with its first Westin hotel set for Dubai.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts is set to open the doors of its Westin flagship hotel in the UAE by 2007's end.

The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina - to be located on the Jumeirah coastline in Dubai - is part of Starwood's aim to expand its brand portfolio in the region.

"With the signing of the new Westin, Dubai will soon host five of our premium and mid-scale brands," said Guido de Wilde, VP regional director of Starwood hotels in the Middle East.

The new hotel is set to offer 294 rooms, conference centre, ballroom, and outdoor beachside amphitheatre.

"Mina Seyahi is already positioned as one of the leading sports and recreation destinations in Dubai, and the new Westin will be able to welcome its guests and offer them the options of two premium brands, the Westin and Le Meridien, in one resort." said Michael Scully, general manager of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi hotel.

Last month, Starwood said it was on the

brink on announcing

another of its nine brands in the UAE ‘before the end of the year', with plans to branch out into other emirates.
