Almost 200 parking spaces in Abu Dhabi have reportedly been reserved for women.

Male driver are to be fined if they are caught using the “Pink Parking Bay“ spaces, according to the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT).

It said 182 parking spaces – recognisable by pink kerbs – had been allocated in multi-storey buildings “to maintain the woman’s privacy”, reported 7Days.

DMAT said the number of bays would increase in the future.

“Multi-storey buildings are considered one of the best solutions that help in solving parking issues as the development of services, health and security requirements are considered while designing them,” it said in the report.

“To that regards, Mawaqif inspectors will be responsible for assuring that the vehicles are parked legally in the pink parking and take the suitable action if men used them. Men who violate this regulation will be fined for illegal parking and the vehicle will be towed.”
