Work begins on first Doha Metro station

First underground station at new Doha International Airport, due to complete before 2011.

Construction work has begun on the first underground station of Doha Metro, Mott MacDonald announced on Thursday.

The new Doha International Airport Terminal Metro Station will be the final station on the future Doha Metro line.

Mott MacDonald was commissioned in 2008 by the Government of Qatar to develop designs for the metro connection from the airport to the wider Doha network.

The station will be completed ahead of the airport opening in 2011, Mert Yesugey, Mott MacDonald's project manager, said.
