Worker killed in Bahrain collapse

A man was killed and another critically injured when they fell six floors after a scaffold collapsed on a Bahrain construction site.

The two men, who were employed by Al Hedaya Contractors, were applying finishing touches to grill work on the Tameer Residence near the Elite Suites Hotel, Sanabis, when the scaffold collapsed.

Indian Kumarapillai Neelakantan, 50, died shortly after being taken to Salmaniya Medical Complex.

Initially doctors believed he had suffered a dislocated shoulder but he died from massive internal injuries.

According to an accident and emergency department doctor, Neelakantan died before anything could be done to help him.

Bangladeshi Anwar Abdul Subaharan, 31, suffered multiple injuries and has a fracture to his neck and suspected broken spine.

An investigation into the collapse is underway.
