A group of leading Bahraini businessmen have voiced their opposition to giving employees days off when public and national holidays fall on a weekend.

Arabic daily Akhbar Al Khaleej said the businessmen, which includes members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bahrain, claim that millions of dinars are lost every year when staff are allowed to take ‘compensatory holidays’. They also said it impedes the national economy and its development when the extra days are granted.

The businessmen also argue that most advanced economies do not support the principle of ‘compensation for holidays’.
