UK-based Hamleys reveals plan to have anchor store at Dubai Mall.
Hamleys, the world famous UK toy store, will open its first store in Dubai after signing up to the Dubai Mall project.
Hamleys at The Dubai Mall will be the Middle East flagship store for the company which has been established for 250 years.
From its small beginnings after being set up by William Hamley, its store on London’s Regent Street has become a global icon within the toy industry and is among the top visited tourist destinations in London.
Hamleys at The Dubai Mall will occupy an anchor location of 32,000 square feet, and showcase more than 15,000 lines of toys, gifts and gadgets from traditional favourites to the most up-to-date toys on the market.
Hamleys will be strategically located near The Dubai Mall’s family entertainment precinct on the second level where attractions such as SEGA Republic, an indoor theme park and KidZania, a children’s ‘edu-tainment’ concept and the 22-screen cinema are positioned.
Yousif Al Ali, general manager of The Dubai Mall said: “The Dubai Mall is excited to introduce the world famous Hamleys to Dubai, and proud to host the Middle East flagship store.”
The store at The Dubai Mall will replicate the magical elements of its sister store in London. Toy demonstrators and magicians will bring the store to life and customers are invited to test toys before buying.
Store features will include a life sized doll house and an imitation streetscape of London’s Regent Street.
Mr Gudjon Reynisson, chief executive officer of Hamleys, said: “Dubai is a logical step in our global expansion programme, as a significant number of our current customers in the UK are visitors from the Middle East.
"We are sure our customers will love the magical and exciting elements of Hamleys, which guarantees the best of past, present and future for children – both young and old at heart.”
The Dubai Mall is located in the world’s most prestigious square kilometre, Downtown Burj Dubai, which encompasses Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest building.
Featuring more than 1,200 retail shops and 160 food and beverage outlets, Dubai Mall expects to attract around 30 million visitors in its first year.
Iconic British toy maker and retailer Hamleys today opened its first store outside Europe, choosing Amman, the capital city of Jordan, as its debut in the Middle East. Read this article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2008/06/18/bcnhamleys118.xml
