WWF in battle over plant

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has launched a global electronic petition to stop the construction of a multi-billion dollar gas plant on Western Australia's remote Barrow Island

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has launched a global electronic petition to stop the construction of a multi-billion dollar gas plant on Western Australia's remote Barrow Island.

The petition targets the oil and gas companies that comprise the Gorgon consortium and calls for them to locate the plant on the Australian mainland.

The WWF says Barrow Island is home to several endangered species, including the burrowing bettong and the golden bandicoot, and building the gas plant there could see the animals wiped out.
