Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has instructed the relevant authorities to provide care and support for the bereaved mother and Al Sreidy family.
His directive follows the death of seven Emirati children in a fire that broke out in their home in Fujairah on Monday morning. He also wished a quick recovery for the mother and offered his condolences to Al Sreidi family.
The announcement follows a directive by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, requiring Civil Defence to install the alarms in every Emirati home at the expense of the UAE government.
The UAE government will foot the bill for anyone who can’t afford to have them installed.
Seven children, ranging in age from five to 13, died as a result of smoke inhalation following the house fire in Fujairah.
Local police services received a phone call from a mother in the village of Dhadna, who woke up to the smell of smoke in the house. She said that her house was on fire and that her children were trapped inside.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at Al-Balagh. All seven – three sons and four daughters – were pronounced dead when the police and civil defence patrols arrived at the scene.
The commander-in-chief of Fujairah Police said they are currently gathering evidence to determine the cause of the fire.
