Five female news presenters on the Qatar-based Al Jazeera television channel have resigned over issues including their dress code, it has been reported.

Jumana Namur, Lina Zahreddin, Lona al-Shibel, Julnar Mussa and Nofar Afli have collectively quit, AFP news agency reports.

The women handed in their notice after repeated criticism from a top company official for allegedly not being conservative enough in their dress, Al-Hayat daily reported on Sunday.

However, a journalist at the satellite station, who wished to remain anonymous, told the news agency the “conflicts run much deeper”.

The Doha-based channel told AFP it would issue a statement later.

This is purely al Jazeera's business in enforcing their Code of Business Conduct...These ladies they have signed contracts when they were hired...I am sure it included the respect of business conduct including dress code...so why are they complaining about now? way to go Al jazeera.

The TV station is a business. If the owner feels the conducts (in this case dressing) of any staff could hurt his business/ratings then they have the right to make changes or critic. Even in the West, there is a dress code which many female presenters have complained about. I remember a meeting that all employees we told what was appropriate dress code as summer rolled in. No tanktop, sleeveless, etc For those that say men that cant control themselves when they see a woman .............. Why dont you go to youtube and see comment made about female presenters and the number of time video has been viewed and what the video focuses on. These peverted thinking is what Islam is trying to curb before it becomes reality such as sexual harassment, stalking, rape etc The West is always doing damage control but Islam nips things in the bud.

I did not say that "exactly", Greer did But I do agree with both him and you, yes there are different cultures and they will always disagree with each other in some ways....always did, always will. But that is no reason to not discuss differences is it? I still don't agree with holding women back just because the "men" can't manage to control themselves, times change, cultures do and can change. Did I mention we don't always follow our "mortal" leaders of the church anymore so we have stopped burning witches in Britain ? To have culture you need to cultivate and grow it, supressing things stops growth. "If you like the west, you can go to the west." (aka - if you don't like it go home) PS - You can't send me home, I'm already there buddy :)

I really appreciate the actions taken by Jazeera. Muslim women should know their values rather than pretending other norms. I am not against the non muslims because that is their way of life and I also supporting providing all necessary freedom to the Muslim woman, but, always we have to remember traditional values are important at the least to public. You are free what you want, but, don't spoil the others.
