Etihad Airways signed a codesharing agreement with China Eastern Airlines, the Abu Dhabi-based airline announced on Tuesday.

Under the new deal, China Eastern will place its ‘MU’ code on Etihad flights between the UAE capital and Shanghai.

Both airlines have plans to expand their partnership. Shanghai-based China Eastern will place its ‘MU’ code on Etihad flights to destinations beyond the Chinese carrier’s network, while Etihad plans to codeshare on China Eastern’s domestic services beyond Shanghai.

Etihad now has airline now has 37 codeshare agreements.

Etihad launched flights between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai in March.

The Abu Dhabi airline initially operated five weekly Airbus A330-300 services to Shanghai's Pudong International Airport. It expanded the service to a daily schedule from April 15.
