The newly opened 100-bed Medcare Women & Children Hospital aims to have 100 percent female staff in near future.
The new medical facility, located off Sheikh Zayed Road in Safa 2, is the first tertiary hospital in the UAE to be 90 percent staffed by women. Dr Shanila Laiju, Medcare’s chief operating officer, said they aim to increase that number in the near future.
“Our dream is to make this 100 percent powered by women,” Dr Laiju told The National newspaper.
“Hopefully we will be able to do that very soon because now there are ladies in all the specialities. We want this to be a one-stop shop for all women’s needs.”
The hospital was officially inaugurated on October 6 by Princess Haya, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
“As a hospital dedicated to women and children, we aim to empower the women of the UAE with good health, so that they can in turn ensure that their families and communities are healthy and happy too,” Alisha Moopen, executive director & CEO, Medcare & Aster, GCC, said.
Medcare also plans to launch new hospitals in Sharjah and Qatar early 2017, she added.
The UAE healthcare market is expected to reach $19.5 billion (AED71.57 billion) in 2020, registering an annual average growth of 12.7 percent from 2015.
