Her Highness Princess Ameerah Al Taweel has spoken of her desire to bring “positive change in the lives of people”.
Accepting a special Humanitarian Award for the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation at this year’s Arabian Business Achievement Awards, held on Tuesday night at the Armani Hotel in Dubai, the Princess told guests at the event: “We truly believe in commitment without boundaries”.
She said every human being has four basic needs – shelter, nourishment, healthcare and education – and praised the “passionate leadership” of her husband HRH Prince Alwaleed and the team at the Foundation, saying their goal was “to make the world a better place.”
She told guests that during various overseas trips with Prince Alwaleed, she had seen many remarkable stories of how with the right assistance, people “could regain their dignity.” She added: “Our mission is to contribute irrespective of religion, nationality or ethnic origin.”
Before collecting the award, ITP Chairman Andrew Neil praised the work of the foundation, saying that it had donated $3 billion to good causes, and that its work “doesn’t get any more remarkable.”
The Princess was one of 17 individuals to collect awards. Other highlights included Emirates Airline vice-chairman Maurice Flanagan, who received a special Lifetime Achievement Award. The CEO of Vodafone Qatar Grahame Maher – who died last month – received a posthumous award for Businessman of the Year, collected on the night by his widow Jenny. The judges said “his leadership was an inspiration to company’s employees and indeed everyone who came across him.”
Royal Jordanian won “Airline of the Year”, and Nbar founder Negin Dasmal received Businesswoman of the Year.
