He might have several impressive titles to his name, but Palestinian national and intensive care physician Raed Arafat particularly thrived when he created and personally funded the mobile emergency service for resuscitation and extrication (SMURD) in Romania, where he is a resident.
SMURD’s impact saw him given Romanian citizenship and asked to take up the post of undersecretary of state at Romania’s health ministry to further the development of emergency medical care in the country. He has been Secretary of State at the Ministry of Internal Affairs since 2014 and also heads the department for emergency situations.
It is safe to say, then, that Arafat has made his fair share of difference in the world.
