Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Holding Company has approved a plan to build the world’s tallest building, according to a report on Tuesday.
The $30bn Kingdom Tower will be located in Obhur, just outside of the port city of Jeddah, The Saudi Gazette said in its report, without revealing the source of the information.
The 5,280-feet Kingdom Tower will exceed Dubai’s 3,281-feet Nakheel Harbor and Tower, whose construction was put on hold. It would take an elevator 12 minutes to get to the top of the Kingdom Tower, The Saudi Gazette added.
At over 828 metres (2,716.5 feet) and more than 160 stories high, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest building in the world.
According to the Saudi Gazettte, an 8.9-square-mile city will also be built around the Kingdom Tower, which can accommodate 80,000 people and an additional one million visitors.
Kingdom Tower will be designed by US-based Adrian Smith, the same architect who designed the iconic Burj Khalifa, the report added.
The building will have 12 million cubic feet of space for offices, a hotel and residential units. Its floor area will be 38 million square feet, according to Saudi Gazette.
