Royal Dutch Shell’s Pearl natural gas-to-liquids plant in Qatar is in the start-up phase and will reach full production in mid-2012, according to Andy Brown, the company’s head for the Middle Eastern country.
Pearl GTL is Shell’s biggest project, with equity investment of $19bn, Brown said on Tuesday at the Gastech conference in Amsterdam.
The plant will use natural gas to produce a range of fuels including gasoil, base oils, naphtha, paraffin and kerosene. Full production will be 260,000 barrels a day.
