Bayan Mahmoud Al Zahran

Designation: Lawyer

Few women in Saudi Arabia have made strides as big as those made by Bayan Mahmoud Al Zahran.

Having become the first Saudi female practising lawyer in 2013, Al Zahran followed up the achievement in 2014 by opening the country’s first ever all-female practice.

The company’s brief is to fight for the rights of local women and help courts understand legal disputes from a female perspective.

Al Zahran’s career started several years ago, working as a legal consultant before being allowed to become a fully licensed lawyer along with three other women, Jihan Qurban, Sarra Al Omarri and Ameera Quqani. She became the first female lawyer to defend a client when she appeared in the General Court in Jeddah.

Speaking to local media last year she said her law firm would “make a difference in the history of court cases and female disputes in the Kingdom”.
