Top 10 Ramadan Apps

The new range of Ramadan relevant applications has been quite impressive this year, but the following ten stood out of the crowd due to their accuracy, ease of use, popularity and consistently positive ratings. Most of them can be downloaded for free across several smartphone platforms and all of them have proven to be a perfect companion for Muslims who are fasting and participating in the unique practices and cultural habits associated with the holy month of Ramadan.

1- Athkar

Athkar by Fares.net is a free Arabic application praised by many for its user friendly and concise features. It divides ‘Athkars’ and ‘Duas’ into clear categories depending on the time of the day which include morning, night and before prayer timings. It is simple, clear cut and ad free.

2- Ramadan 2013

Ramadan 2013 by Hakim Boukhatem is available for both iOs and Android platforms. It is a Ramadan calendar that displays ‘Imsak’ and ‘Iftar’ timings and is known for being a reliable and accurate source of information. Seamlessly functional, it displays the current date’s five prayer times for more than 251 countries.

3- Quran Tafsir

Quran Tafsir by Ibm Katheer provides Quran translations, explanations, recitation and syntax in 56 languages. Font size is fully adjustable and recitation can be looped or slowed down for memorisation purposes. Quick search options for ‘Sura’ and ‘Aya’ are available along with several other helpful features. One downside, however is that bookmarks can occasionally be deleted by the program.

4- Quran Mojawed

Quran Mojawed by ASGATech can now be downloaded directly from the Windows Phone Store for free. It offers the complete Quran in Arabic calligraphy with the possibility to listen to each ‘sura’. It also indicates ‘Tajweed’ (recitation) guidelines and bookmarks.

5- Ramadan Calendar

This application by Azzure labs has one of the simplest and highly organised user interfaces. It indicates ‘Hijri’ dates, prayer timings, moon phase and features automated ‘Suhoor’ and ‘Iftar’ alarms. Ramadan Calendar is a free application that can be viewed in both English and Arabic.

6- myDuaa: Fortress of a Muslim

A rigorous database of ‘Duas’ and prayers dedicated to different occasions and emotions. You can quickly bookmark any dua with just a single tap. Arabic duas are displayed on the screen along with their English transliteration along with an audio option. It received countless praises from its users and can be downloaded for $.99

7- Muslim Pro: Azan, Quran and Qibla

This is a basic application that is hassle free. Clear icons display its different features which include a ‘Qibla’ compass, holiday and prayer calendars and the full Quran. The Arabic scripts can be translated in 15 different languages and the maps indicate the locations of Mosque and halal restaurants in your area which makes it very beneficial for global travelers.

8- Ramadan Kareem

Unique features of this free application include a Quran calculator, to determine the number of pages to be read to achieve one’s reading goal at the end of the Holy month, free TV and Radio streams, a selection of ‘Fatwa’ and holy reading and not to mention the special Ramadan recipes and non-Muslim section, explaining to do’s and don’ts of Ramadan.

9- Zomato

Zomato is one of the most sought after restaurant finder applications and is available for free to all operating systems. It offers one of the biggest selections of restaurant across the UAE, Qatar, India and many more. The application shows menus, pictures and maps for over 95,000 restaurants as well as check ratings and reviews. For Nokia users, Zomato has introduced a special Iftar and Suhoor section enabling users to easily find out the best eating options available this holy season.

10- Ramadan 3al TV

This application by Nazzelha Entertainment initially had a few glitches when Ramadan started, but now it is finally running smoothly and it free to download.  Ramadan 3al TV provides continuously updated content on Ramadan’s favourite series along with their timings and channels.
