Dubai Police have unveiled the first WiFi and USB-port equipped ‘smart seats’ at six local police stations.

In a Facebook post on its official account, Dubai Police said the benches have so far been installed in front of the Al Rashidiyah, Al Muraqqabat, Naif, Al Qusais and Bur Dubai Police Stations.

In the post Colonel Sheikh Mohammed Al Mualla, the director general of Dubai Police’s General Authority for Total Quality Management (TQM) is quoted as saying that the benches each come equipped by two charging stations and a 4G router, all powered using solar panels.

He added that the seats can also be cooled during periods of hot weather and lit in the dark. The benches, which will receive automatic updates, can also help provide the public with information about police applications and about current weather conditions.

More “smart seats” will be installed at police stations throughout the emirate as part of Dubai’s ‘Smart City’ initiatives.
