Dubai authorities have announced major road closures across the city as New Year celebrations are planned at key locations.
A comprehensive transport plan will see extended Metro services and additional bus journeys.
To manage congestion at peak times, key roads will be closed.
Dubai New Year road closures
A phased set of road closures in Downtown Dubai will see key routes shut down from 4pm, until a partial closure of Sheik Zayed Road at 11pm.
The complete list of Downtown Dubai road closures includes:
- From 4pm: Al Asayel Street, Al Mustaqbal Street, Lower Financial Centre Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Burj Khalifa Street
- From 8pm: Al Multaqa (Al Mulook) Street
- From 9pm: Upper Financial Centre Road
- From 11pm: Partial closure of Sheikh Zayed Road
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has advised motorists to plan trips in advance and to use public transport to have the smoothest possible journey.
The RTA has also announced traffic restrictions in JBR. In a message on social media, the transport authority said parts of JBR will be closed to traffic and become pedestrian-only from 4pm on December 31.
The RTA will restrict access to traffic from:
- Al Marsa Street
- Al Naseem Street
- Cayan Tower
Taxis will be operating on King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street.
E-hail cabs and limousines, will be banned on King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street between 11pm and 1am.
Traffic to the Bluewaters area will be limited depending on traffic conditions.
In addition to road closures, authorities have activated a comprehensive operational plan to manage marine traffic during New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations, with measures aimed at ensuring safety and maintaining smooth navigation during one of the busiest periods of the year.

To further ease expected traffic congestion, Metro and Tram times are extended across the New Year’s Eve period.

- Wednesday, December 31: 5am – 11.59pm
- Thursday, January 1: 12midnight – 11.59pm
Dubai Tram
- Wednesday, December 31: 6am – 11.59pm
- Thursday, January 1: 12midnight – 1am (following day)
