Emirates extends partnership with DP World Tour Championship for five years

The Dubai-based airline is one of the longest-standing partners of the Tour, having started as title sponsor of Desert Classic in 1989

The partnership with Emirates is one of the longest with between the DP World Tour (earlier called the European Tour) and stretches back over 30 years

Emirates Airline, which has been a premium partner and the Official Airline of the season-ending DP World Tour Championship since its inaugural edition in 2009, has agreed to a five-year extension which will see the airline associated with the DP World Tour season-ending event until at least 2027.

The DP World Tour Championship, offering a prize purse of $10 million, is a Rolex Series event on the Tour, and features the top-50 players on the Race to Dubai.

Last week at the Earth course of Jumeirah Golf Estates, Spain’s world number five Jon Rahm won the championship and a cheque of $3 million, while world number one Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland was crowned the European number one for winning the season-long Race to Dubai.

Emirates will benefit from extensive branding across the tournament including hospitality chalet, Championship Village activation and teams in the Rolex ProAm. Cabin crew from the airline are also present during the official prize-giving ceremony.

“We’re delighted to extend our partnership with the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai,” Boutros Boutros, Divisional Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand at Emirates Group, said.

“We’ve been together since the first tournament was staged back in 2009 and the event continues to provide a great platform for us to engage with golf fans in the UAE and around the world, as well as helping us connect with our clients in a wonderful environment as we continue to scale up our brand presence on a global scale.”

The partnership with Emirates is one of the longest with between the DP World Tour (earlier called the European Tour) and stretches back over 30 years. The airline became the Title Partner of the Dubai Desert Classic, when it was played at Emirates Golf Club in 1989.

Guy Kinnings, Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Commercial Officer of the European Tour group added: “Emirates are one of our longest-serving partners and I’m delighted that they have decided to extend our partnership at the DP World Tour Championship.

“It was fantastic to mark the start of this year’s tournament with a flypast by an Emirates A380 and seven RAF Red Arrows on Thursday, minutes before world number one Rory McIlroy teed off at Jumeirah Golf Estates.”

Since becoming a partner of the Championship in 2009, the airline has transported in excess of 600 players to Dubai to compete in the season finale, as well as bringing together over 200,000 fans to witness the action unfold over the Earth Course.
