Due to the sheer magnitude of operations, standardisation is the largest issue facing the Agility fleet. In terms of managing the 4000 plus vehicles, we try to ensure uniformity of maintenance across all operations in the Middle East and North African region.
Considering the peculiar nature and variety of countries we operate in, this is much easier said than done. From the range of respective client’s requirements and operating environments, to the diverse road conditions and mechanical strains placed on the vehicles, we have to remain flexible enough to accommodate whilst at the time maintaining the overall Agility standard customers have come to expect from us.
In order to optimise vehicle utilization, all factors that may hinder its operation, be it mechanical or otherwise, must be minimised. This requires complete transparency on asset visibility and downtime, because if certain maintenance issues are neglected, the downtime of the vehicles ultimately becomes prolonged.
By working alongside respective maintenance facilities, whether inhouse or outsourced, I believe it is possible to ensure efficiency remains a top priority.
Whilst the region’s infrastructure is continuously improving, it still has much room to develop in comparison to other continents. Certain stretches of highways prove optimal for long haul movements while others are ridden with potholes or even in places unpaved.
This contrast affects the average speed of vehicles and increases the deterioration rate of the tyres. The heat naturally plays a factor and requires unique measures in order to extend the asset’s life. Since service levels and capacities from local dealers are not uniform, we have to overcome the challenges surrounding the varying degrees of after sales support.
In reference to safety, certain regional legislation governing is lacking and we would urge federal intervention to ensure all transport providers are in fact compliant with global safety standards. Licencing, testing and audits are necessary in ensuring that a minimum standard exists.
As the Middle East region continues to develop, its becoming clear that overland transportation is to play a large role in the future. Naturally, growth areas vary in transport requirements, but whether its cold chain, general cargo, construction or bulk fuel, we are positioned to expand our existing operations to accommodate rising demand.
Vehicle types:Fleet is constituted of Mercedes Actros 2040S, 3348 and 3848 models.
Trailer types:A total of 3667 trailers, which includes 1189 flatbeds, 450 lowboys, 1564 reefer trailers alongside a range of car carriers, temperature controlled box trucks and curtain sides.
Fleet Staff:Agility has a fleet team of 1671 employees.
Technology:Implementation of inhouse developed GPS tracking technology called Microtransport solution.
Maintenance Facilities:Outsourced to various local Mercedes-Benz dealers in the Middle East.
Primary industry/range of goods transported:The Agility fleet is capable of serving cold chain, bulk fuel, heavy lift and bulk cargo.
Coverage Area:The transport operation itself extends throughout the whole of the Middle East region while office operations stretch across the Middle East and North Africa region.
