Hajj 2023: Saudi Arabia places strict Makkah entry ban

The ban, which came into effect on June 23, aims to regulate the influx of individuals into Saudi Arabia’s Makkah during this period

Saudi Arabia‘s traffic police in Makkah have initiated strict measures to ensure that unauthorised vehicles are not allowed entry into the city and its holy sites.

Starting 12:00 noon on Friday, Dhu Al-Hijjah 5, officers will be stationed at various entry points to implement this directive. This will be in effect until July 1.

The ban, which came into effect on June 23, aims to regulate the influx of individuals into Makkah during this period.

To enforce the restrictions, the Hajj Security Forces have issued a stern warning to potential violators.

Those found guilty of transporting pilgrims without the required Hajj permits will face severe consequences.

The penalties for such offenses include substantial fines and imprisonment for a period of up to six months.

Offenders will be liable to pay a fine of SAR50000, in addition to the possibility of serving a jail term.

Moreover, if the vehicle used for unauthorised transportation belongs to the violator, their accomplice, or partner, it may be confiscated based on a court decision.

In the case of expatriates involved in such violations, they will be deported from the country after completing their prison sentence and paying the fine. Additionally, they will face a ban on reentering the Kingdom for a specific duration as stipulated by the law.

These stringent measures have been implemented to maintain order and security during the Hajj pilgrimage, which is a significant religious event for Muslims worldwide. The authorities are committed to ensuring that only individuals with valid permits are granted access to Makkah and its holy sites, and they will not hesitate to take strict action against anyone who violates these regulations.
