Noyes introduces handheld OTDR

Noyes is claiming to have the first handheld optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) device. As a result engineers will no longer have to carry bulky testing equipment to assess the performance of fibre optic cables.

Noyes is claiming to have the first handheld optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) device. According to the vendor, gone are the days of engineers having to carry around bulky testing equipment to assess the reliability and performance of fibre optic cables. Noyes says its M100 OTDR offers users a single and multimode, four wavelength OTDR with integrated visual fault locator (VFL). The device utilises PDA technology to achieve its higher levels of portability. Additionally, it combines an user interface with the features of a mini-OTDR to facilitate the process of premises network tier 2 fibre link certification and fault location measuring, including connection loss and reflectance, splice loss and fibre loss slope.Furthermore, both the single and multimode devices offer tool free switchable adapter mounts, however, ST, SC and FT adapters are provided. The VFL port is also designed with a universal adapter that accepts any 2.5 mm connector.
