Eid Al Fitr 2023 will start on Friday, April 21 in Qatar.

The clarification comes after a post on social media by the Qatar News Agency.

Qatar’s Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) had called on all Muslims living in the country to sight the crescent of Shawwal on Thursday, Ramadan 29, 1444 AH, corresponding to April 20, 2023.

The committee asked anybody who saw the crescent to head to the headquarters of Awqaf in Dafna (Towers) area to report their testimony.

With the moon being sighted, it means Friday will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

The country had previously declared an 11-day holiday for Eid Al Fitr, according to the Amiri Diwan.

Eid Al Fitr holidays began on April 19, in line with 28 Ramadan 1444 AH, and will continue until April 27.

All employees will return to work on Sunday, April 30, 2023.

The holiday is applicable to all ministries, government entities, and public institutions. However, the Governor of the county’s Central Bank is anticipated to decide the beginning and end dates for the holiday for the Central Bank, financial institutions, and banks that are functioning under the oversight of the QCB and the Financial Markets Authority (QFMA).
