Asia Pacific-based cruise operator Star Cruises has launched its first Mediterranean cruise itinerary and declared the Middle East its key source market for this new venture.
The 1900-passenger SuperStar Libra has been relocated from India to Valletta in Malta, and is offering seven and 13-night cruises that take in European destinations such as Italy, the Greek Islands, Egypt and Istanbul.
“Holidaymakers on SuperStar Libra will also have the flexibility of embarking the ship in Rome, Venice, Istanbul or Malta, via a choice of fly-cruise options from the Middle East,†said Chong Chee-Tut, CEO, Star Cruises speaking at a press conference held at Dubai Cruise Terminal last month, where the vessel stopped off en-route to Malta.
He spoke about the importance of the UAE as a source market and said that Star Cruises was “eager to promote†packages to customers Middle East-wide.
GCC families, couples, senoir citizens and MICE groups were all potential candidates for the new European cruise itinerary, he said.
SuperStar Libra’s first European cruise departed Valletta on June 19.
Mediterranean itineraries will run all summer.
