Like many other vendors at today’s show, Toshiba is focusing on mobility and wireless solutions at this year’s Gitex. “We are focusing on mobility and wireless at Gitex,” confirms Ahmed Khalil, regional manager of the company’s Middle East computer systems division. “Toshiba’s mission statement it is to create a ‘mobile net lifestyle’ where everybody can communicate and exchange ideas using different portable form factors, wireless infrastructures and the internet,” he adds. At the core of the company’s strategy will be the range of mobile computers that Toshiba is set to unveil at the show. The notebooks will come from the vendor’s Satellite Pro, Tecra and PortTgT lines, and each one is designed to make mobile computing a reality for users in the Middle East.”Toshiba has introduced a number of products in the professional range at Gitex and we are at the show with models that carry the Centrino technology,” says Khalil. “One of them is very thin and weighs around 1.9kg – the PortTgT 100 – and one of them is the PortTgT M100, which comes with an optical disc drive,” he adds. The vendor is also addressing the small office/home office (SOHO) market. “This is where Toshiba sees clearly the demand for Centrino mobile technology coming from and it is positioning products accordingly,” says Khalil.
