The UAE’s military spending at IDEX 2023 and Navdex 2023 has passed $5bn in three days.

Tawazun Council announced signed nine deals, worth AED5.7bn ($1.55bn), with local and international companies on behalf of the Ministry of Defence on day three of the dual events.

The acquisition unit also announced two deals worth AED134m ($36.5m) on behalf of Abu Dhabi Police, bringing the total number contracts signed on day three to 11, with a total value of AED5.8bn ($1.6bn).

This makes the cumulative value of the deals announced so far AED 18.44bn ($5bn) across 34 deals.

The announcement was made Tawazun Council’s official spokesmen Majed Ahmed Al Jaberi and Zayed Saeed Al Meraikhi.

Zayed Al Meraikhi said: “The total number of contracts Tawazun Council signed on behalf of the Ministry of Defence were nine contracts with a total value of AED5.7bn.

“They include four local companies, with a total value of AED5.05bn, while the number of contracts signed with international companies has reached five contracts with a total value of AED694m.

“We will continue to work alongside the Ministry of Defence, security agencies, and Abu Dhabi Police.”

The biggest contract, worth AED4bn, was awarded to Earth, a subsidiary of Edge Group to develop tactical data link network. Another contract, worth AED1bn, was signed with Edge Group’s subsidiary Halcon to procure Al Tariq system.

A contract worth AED28m was signed with International Diving Trade to provide technical support to the boats workshop.

An AED 27 million contract was signed with International Golden Group to procure scanning and monitoring devices.

Announcing the day’s deals with companies based outside the UAE, Al Jaberi said, “Today, Tawazun Council – the UAE defence and security acquisitions authority for the Ministry of Defence, UAE Armed Forces, Security Agencies and Abu Dhabi Police is pleased to announce the contracts that were signed on behalf of the Ministry of Defence on the third day of IDEX and NAVDEX 2023.

“The Council manages the contractual, legal and financial aspects of procurement and the management of programs from rollout to completion.”

The international contracts announced on day 3 of the events included two with France’s Thales. One is worth AED176m to provide technical support for the GM-200 radars and the other is a AED6m contract to provide technical support and training on CMS.

The other two signed contracts were an AED 407 million contract with the French company Naval Group, to procure Anti-Torpedoes’ CANTO systems AND mu-90 torpedoes.

Also signed is an AED68m contract with the US company Kaman to procure a proximity fuze and a contract worth AED 37m with Frequentis of Austria to develop an operation centre.

Al Jaberi detailed the two AED134m deals signed on behalf of Abu Dhabi Police, including a contract worth AED62m with Leonardo of Italy to procure AW139 Helicopter and an AED72m contract with Nimr, a subsidiary of Edge Group, to procure Ajban vehicle 4X4.

The UAE signed military deals worth $2.2bn on the second day of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) and the Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX) 2023.
