Some UAE motorists can get a discount of up to 35 per cent if they pay traffic fines early.
The announcement was made during a Sharjah Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.
The early payment offer for Sharjah motorists begins on April 1.
UAE traffic fine discounts
Motorists who pay fines within 60 days of the offence will receive a discount of 35 per cent off the original fee.
Furthermore, any motorist in Sharjah who pays a traffic fine between 60 days and a full calendar year will receive a 25 per cent discount on their fees.
Motorists in Sharjah who wait more than a year to pay traffic fines will be subject to the full sum, without any discount applied.
It is not uncommon for police forces to offer discounts on payment of traffic fines in the UAE. Police in Abu Dhabi, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain all offered discounts of up to 50% in December. Motorists sometimes wait until an offer is made in order to reduce the cost of their traffic violations.
