Dubai-based interior designer, wa international has been awarded the Mövenpick Jumeirah Beach Residence project, due for completion in 2007. The firm plans to introduce Californian design style into the region, with a distinct focus on the use of light at the hotel.

While the architecture is in keeping with the Jumeirah Beach Residence master plan, the interiors will reflect clean lines and open spaces, as seen in residential and public buildings on the Pacific coast. According to the team at wa international the project concept statement is defined as: light and shade, light finishes and lightness in terms of openness and planning

“Textures and fabrics bring to mind the coolness and clarity of interiors where light washes into rooms with unfinished stone and linen, smooth polished plaster and sun-bleached wood,” said Stephanie Backhouse, senior FF&E designer, wa international.

The Lobby design will see reception desks that will appear to float above a marble floor interspersed with ‘pebbles’ of mosaic, complemented with soft seating in rattan and knobbly linen.

Restaurants will cater for visitors who desire a gastro pub experience — again a new theme for Dubai.

Guest rooms and suites will feature five fixture bathrooms, while the finishes and furnishings are soft and light using oak wood and polished tiles in sandy textures.

The Mövenpick Jumeirah Beach Residence project is not the only one on the wa drawing board; others include Burj Dubai Lake Hotel, the Zamzam Sofitel Tower in Mecca, Sofitel hotels at the Jumeirah Beach Residence in Dubai and The Zamani Palace in Zanzibar.
