Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly building a $100 million compound in Hawaii – complete with an underground bunker and its own food and energy sources, with many believing he is already making preparations for doomsday.
The construction of the 1,400-acre compound on Kauai Island is shrouded in secrecy.
The sprawling property, called Koolau Ranch, is already partially constructed and is shaping up to be one of the most expensive personal construction projects in modern history, Wired reported, citing property records and interviews with contractors.
The complex consists of a dozen buildings with two central mansions that will be connected by a tunnel leading to a 5,000 square-foot underground shelter with an escape hatch accessible by a ladder, Wired mentioned citing building plans, according to the report.
Nobody working on this project is allowed to talk about what they are building, the report said. Several workers claimed that anyone who passes by compound security is bound by a strict non-disclosure agreement.
And they are not just formalities. Several workers have been removed from the project for posting about it on social media, Wired reported.
The proposed Zuckerberg mansion will reportedly have at least 30 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms and will feature guest houses and a group of 11 “disk-shaped” tree houses joined together by rope bridges. It will also have a living space and mechanical room and feature an apparent “blast-resistant” concrete and steel door.
As per construction documents, the exits and entrance doors throughout the property will have keypad locks and soundproofing.
Its library will have a secret door and cameras will be installed everywhere. The Meta CEO is preparing for some sort of apocalypse, the New York Post reported.
The house is also built to be completely self-sufficient.
The billionaire has reportedly spent $170 million to purchase the land to build his ambitious house and it is his family home.
