At least 15 people were killed in rain-related incidents across north India on Sunday, as Delhi and the neighboring states witnessed the highest rainfall in a single day in July since 1982.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘yellow’ alert – warning of moderate to heavy rain – across the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) for Monday.
As heavy rains continue to batter Delhi and its surrounding regions, authorities in Delhi and Gurugram – a major corporate hub in Delhi-NCR – have announced the closure of all schools and work from home for companies on Monday.
“Gurugram has experienced heavy and continuous rainfall, and there is prediction for heavy rainfall tomorrow as well,” the Office of District Magistrate wrote in an order.
Federal Home Minister Amit Shah took stock of the situation as he spoke with the chief ministers of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and Lieutenant Governors (LGs) of Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.
