Dubai Municipality has awarded contracts totalling AED355 million to transform Al Mamzar beach and Jumeirah 1 beach. Officials plan completing the projects within 18 months, according to a statement by the Dubai Media Office.

The developments span 5.7km of coastline between the two beaches. They form part of continuous work building sustainable infrastructure for all coastal facilities.

The projects follow the Dubai Master Plan for Public Beaches.

Dubai to invest AED355 million developing Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 beaches

The projects are in line with the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the guidance of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

The Higher Committee for Urban Planning and Well-Being announced the award of contracts to develop Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 Beaches.

The project spans 5.7 km (4.3 km at Al Mamzar and 1.4 km at Jumeirah 1). The cost of both projects is estimated as AED355 million and aims “to elevate public beaches in Dubai to world-class standards,” as per Sheikh Mohammed’s vision.

Plans involve “radical changes” restructuring beach infrastructure. New features range from a 200m long floating bridge to 5km pedestrian path.

This path will connect both beaches. Other additions include a 11km cycling and running tracks surrounded by trees.

Facilites and more

New facilities will include a 200m floating bridge, 11km of cycling and running tracks, 10 recreational areas, over 1,400 parking spaces and high-tech amenities like Wi-Fi and CCTV.

Fifty investment opportunities will also be made available, such as water sports rentals and retail units.

Sand dunes will be elevated using 500,000cbm of sand to protect the coast from climate change impacts.

Other facilities will include toilets, showers and changing rooms that meet global standards for comfort and privacy. Another 10 recreational play areas and children’s playgrounds will be built. Additional zones contain areas for beach activities, fitness, barbecuing and resting. Seasonal event spaces will have secured entrances and exits.

Facilities for People of Determination will be provided in accordance with the Dubai Qualified Environment Code (DQEC) and international best practices, the statement said.

When finished, the sites will have Dubai’s first 24/7 dedicated night swimming beach stretching 300m. Services for accessibility will follow international best practice.

The projects support Dubai’s goals of boosting quality of life as outlined in plans like the Dubai Economic Agenda 2033 and Dubai Urban Plan 2040.

Work will be phased to keep parts of the beaches accessible with safety measures in place to protect public health during construction.

The municipality aims to enhance beach services by 400 percent and night swimming lengths by 56 percent through such projects.
