Leaders of the UAE have ordered the release of more than 4,340 prisoners ahead of Ramadan 2025.
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 1,295 inmates from correctional institutions in the UAE.
He also pledged to settle any financial obligations incurred as part of the inmates’ sentences in a gesture marking the Holy Month of Ramadan.
UAE prisoners released before Ramadan 2025
The initiative reflects the UAE President’s commitment to offering inmates a fresh start, alleviating the hardships faced by their families, and fostering stability within their households and the local community.
It also aims to bring joy to their loved ones during this blessed occasion.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 1,518 prisoners of different nationalities from Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments.
Attorney General of Dubai Chancellor Essam Issa Al-Humaidan said the pardon reflects Sheikh Mohammed’s keenness to reunite the pardoned individuals with their families during the Holy Month.
The pardon gives the released prisoners an opportunity to get a fresh start in life and reintegrate into the community, he added.
Dubai Public Prosecution, in collaboration with Dubai Police, has already commenced the legal procedures to implement Sheikh Mohammed’s order, said Al-Humaidan.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, granted the release of 707 inmates from the Sharjah Punitive and Correctional Institution.
These inmates have qualified for pardon thanks to their good behaviour and conduct during their time in custody.
The decision precedes the Holy Month of Ramadan, reflecting a spirit of compassion and renewal.
Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, ordered the release of 506 prisoners ahead of Ramadan, and pledged to settle their financial liabilities on the advent of Ramadan.
The prisoners’ release comes as part of Sheikh Saud’s keenness to allow pardoned inmates to start a new life and bring about stability to their families.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah, gave his directives to proceed with the necessary legal procedures to implement Sheikh Saud’s decision.
Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, ordered the release of 207 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Ajman.
The inmates of various nationalities were selected based on good conduct and behaviour.
The gesture is part of the Ajman Ruler’s keenness to give prisoners an opportunity to start a new life and bring joy to their families.
Major General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, extended thanks and appreciation to the Ruler of Ajman and hoped that this gesture would give the pardoned prisoners a chance to return to their families and reintegrate positively into society.
He added that the procedures for the prisoners’ release will be initiated immediately.
Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, ordered the release of 111 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Fujairah.
The inmates of various nationalities were selected based on good conduct and behaviour.
The gesture is part of Sheikh Hamad’s desire to give prisoners an opportunity to start a new life and bring joy to their families.
Major-General Mohammed bin Ghanim Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of the Fujairah Police, thanked Sheikh Hamad for this gesture, hoping that it will enable the released prisoners to start new lives, contribute to their community, and show good behaviour.
