UAE emirates among world’s safest cities: Numbeo index

Fujairah tops the list at 91.88 safety index, the only city among 465 in the world to score above 90; Abu Dhabi is second at 88.46

Fujairah led five UAE cities in the top-10 of Numbeo’s ‘Safety Index by City’. The northern emirate was No1 on the list, followed by capital Abu Dhabi.

Fujairah received a score of over 91.88 percent, outperforming 465 international cities. The data collected is updated on a real-time basis.

Numbeo is the world’s largest cost of living database. It is also a crowd-sourced global database of quality of life data like housing indicators, perceived crime rates, healthcare quality, transport quality, and other statistics.

Five of UAE cities were inside the top-10. Following Fujairah on top was Abu Dhabi with 88.46 percent.

Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai were No7, 8 and 9, with safety index of 84.5, 84.31 and 83.89 respectively.

In 2021, as per the total combined stat, Abu Dhabi (88.46) was the safest city in the world, followed by Doha (87.96). Sharjah (83.6) and Dubai (83.59) were ranked sixth and seventh for the complete year.

A WAM report said according to the Fujairah’s Police official statistics, the rates of crime and serious accidents in the emirate are the lowest in the region, underscoring its high quality of life and the government’s keenness to support the work of security and police institutions, in line with the best international standards.

Doha (third), San Sebastian (Spain), Taipei (Taiwan), Quebec City (Canada) and Zurich (Switzerland) rounded up the real-time top-10.

Caracas in Venezuela was the most dangerous city in the world in 2021, and continues to have the lowest index (16.06) among the 465 cities. Three South African cities – Pretoria, Durban and Johannesburg – were inside the bottom ten.
