UAE weather authorities recorded temperatures of more than 49 degrees over the weekend and have pointed towards topping 50 degrees and also rain this week.
The highest temperature of the year, so far, was recorded at Sweihan in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, June 16. At 2.45pm temperatures were recorded at 49.4 degrees.
An NCM forecast identifies Wednesday in Ras Al Khaimah as a possible day to pass the 50 degree mark in the UAE.

High temperatures were recorded in various locations, with the top five hottest areas recorded at weather stations on Sunday were:
- Sweihan: 49.4 degrees at 2.45pm
- Al Shawamekh: 49.1 degrees at 12.45pm
- Mezaira: 49 degrees at 4.15pm
- Saih Al Salem: 48.6 degrees at 1.45pm
- Al Wathba: 48.5 degrees at 3.30pm

At the same time, the NCM is forecasting rain in the parts of the country this week.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, June 18, the NCM said: “Fair to partly cloudy at times, with a chance of some convective clouds formation East and Southward by afternoon, may be associated with rainfall. Light to moderate Southeasterly to Northwesterly and Northeasterly winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust during daytime, with a speed of 15–25kmph reaching 40kmph”.
