Abu Dhabi updated its green list amid renewed concerns over the omicron variant, with changes coming into effect December 26, state news outlet WAM reported.
Arrivals from countries on the Covid-19 travel green list do not need to quarantine upon arrival in the United Arab Emirates capital.
Algeria, Papau New Guinea and San Marino have been added to the list.
Belize, Brunei, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burundi, Chile, Colombia, Comoros, Ecuador, Estonia, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Mauritius, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Seychelles, Tunisia, Uruguay, have been removed since the last update in November.
The omicron variant has brought renewed concerns globally as the pandemic continues to evolve.
The highly vaccinated UAE reported its first case of the new variant last month, and case counts have risen dramatically, climbing over 1,000 daily cases in the last week after steadily reporting case counts in the low hundreds. The government has said hospitalisations remain low.
Abu Dhabi has also recently updated its Covid-19 precautions throughout the emirate, with a 14-day AlHosn green pass now required for entry to restaurants, shops, and other establishments. At the border with Dubai, those entering into Abu Dhabi are now scanned by EDE scanners, and those who exhibit signs or symptoms of Covid-19 are sent immediately for a rapid antigen test.
