Dubai’s largest lender has announced the launch of its Bank on Wheels initiative as part of its drive to improve customer service.
Emirates NBD said it is now operating a fully secure vehicle equipped to offer cash and cheque deposit services and driven by a dedicated customer service representative.
The Bank on Wheels vehicle will be parked in areas where customers do not have access to physical Emirates NBD branches or ATMs, the bank said in a statement.
It will also be used to provide customers with essential banking services on-site at major events, it added.
The new service expands on the bank’s launch in 2004 of a fleet of ATMs on wheels, the statement said.
The Emirates NBD Bank on Wheels will also soon house the APTRA Interactive Teller Machine (ITM) technology, which was introduced earlier this year.
The ITMs allow customers to conduct about 95 percent of their banking without entering a branch, while replicating face-to-face teller services via real-time video.
The Bank on Wheels representative will also be able to handle applications for financial products, the statement added.
Suvo Sarkar, general manager – Retail Banking, Emirates NBD, said: “Customer convenience is a key driving force at Emirates NBD. The ‘Bank on Wheels’ initiative will enable us to assess our growth strategy and evaluate the need for setting up physical branches, in busy districts that are home to large customer groups.”
Emirates NBD has about 149 branches in the UAE and over 720 ATMs.
It has operations in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Jersey (Channel Islands), and representative offices in India, Iran and Beijing.
