Health insurance cover will become mandatory within weeks for small companies that employ less than 100 people on their rolls, a senior Dubai Health Authority has said.
There are about 135,000 such companies and are the final group of employers to adopt mandatory health insurance for employees after the deadline previously passed for larger companies, The National reported.
Companies need to provide employee health insurance certificate along with the other required documents when renewing visas, Dr Haidar Saeed Al Yousuf, Director of Health Funding, DHA, told Al-Ittihad newspaper.
Currently, 85 per cent of people in Dubai have health insurance. So far, 99 per cent of employees at the 300 large companies and the 3,000 to 4,000 middle-sized companies have enrolled in the health coverage programme.
The authority will launch an awareness-raising campaign in mid-October that aims at promoting the health insurance system.
