Government announces paid day-off for all UAE employees to mark Isra Wal Miraj

Public and private sector workers in the UAE will be given the day off on Sunday May 25 to mark Isra Wal Miraj, according to a government circular issued on Tuesday.

The Ministries and federal government bodies will resume work on Monday May 26, according to the circular issued by Humaid Al Qatami, Minister of Education, and chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

He said in comments published by news agency WAM that the Isra Wal Miraj public holiday had been moved from the Monday to the previous day in accordance to the federal law.

Separately, an announcement by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour, said all employees working in private sector companies within the UAE would also be entitled to a paid holiday.

The Isra and Mi’raj are the two parts of a Night Journey or Shob-e-Miraz that, according to Islamic tradition, the prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PBUH) took during a single night around the year 621.
