The Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) has asked the Tamweel Tower owner association to incorporate new safety measures before it grants a completion certificate, according to a news report.
The 34-storey tower in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) was engulfed in flames in November 18, 2012, with rehabilitation process completing in June 2016.
In October this year, Arabian Business reported property owners were still not allowed to move in to their apartments though Orient Insurance, the tower’s insurance company, said that the new panels were “A2” fire-rated materials, which adhere to global standards on building fire safety, and that the relevant parties were working to secure the necessary approvals.
The DCD has recommended replacement of some sprinkler valves, installation of smoke detectors in the maid and store rooms and raising the balcony railing to 1.2 metres, Gulf News reported Amit Suri, acting chairman of Tamweel Tower Owner’s Association, as saying.
The association has contacted the insurance to take charge of fire safety installations and other repair work necessary, he added.
A DCD spokesperson said the completion certificate will be issued once all compliance issues were resolved.
Though the newspaper said an updated UAE Fire and Life Safety Code 2016 was expected to be released by year-end, Zawya Projects reported earlier that the new code has been delayed and will be released early 2017.
Empower, the district cooling services provider for JLT, said it will waive off 50 percent part of the accumulated fees (November 2012 to June 2016) for their district cooling services.
