Saudi Arabia’s summer tourism plan continues to entice international tourists with a wide range of incentives this season.
Launched by the Saudi Tourism Authority, the “Saudi Summer is Next Door” programme is currently in full swing, offering visa initiatives, major events, complimentary airline tickets for families, tax-free shopping, and access to cool climate destinations.
The programme spans across seven destinations, including the mountain regions in Aseer and Taif, as well as Al Baha, the Red Sea, Jeddah, Riyadh, and AlUla. The initiative includes over 550 tourism options and 150 exclusive deals, with each destination is designed to cater to to diverse travel preferences.
“In collaboration with STA’s partners, [this year’s summer programme] includes attractive offers from hotels, airlines offering free tickets for children in partnership with major travel, tourism, and aviation companies, and exceptional products in the Aseer Season and Jeddah Season like tax-free shopping offers and many new and exciting experiences such as private beaches for tourists and ladies’ beaches.” STA CEO Fahd Hamidaddin commented.
Offered until the end of September, the programme comes at a time when visiting Saudi Arabia has become easier and more convenient for tourists. Initiatives such as making eVisas available to citizens of 66 countries and increased flight connectivity to Saudi summer destinations aims to make the kingdom an attractive alternative as a summer travel destination in the region. GCC residents can also take advantage of the GCC residents visa, which allows multiple entries and a stay of up to 90 days in Saudi Arabia during a year.
Escape the heat

With temperatures averaging around 24°C during the summer months, the region Aseer is a convenient escape for travellers in search of cooler climates. Located in the southern highlands of Saudi Arabia, this region is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, including mountain peaks, beaches, waterfalls, and ancient villages. The area features numerous family activities from hiking and cycling trails to paragliding and kayaking.
Al Baha in southwestern Saudi Arabia also offers a cooler temperatures. Located 2,500 meters above sea level, it provides an ideal setting for outdoor pursuits such as hiking and camping. Notable attractions include the Raghdan Forest Park, Shada Mountains, ancient caves, the marble village of Dhee Ayn, Al Kharrarah Waterfall, and Prince Hussam Park, with interactive water features and children’s area.
Additionally, the city Taif – also located in the southwestern region – boasts historical sites such as Shubra Palace and Al Rudaf Park. Cultural festivals, including the Taif Rose Festival, provide insights into the city’s traditions and cultural celebrations.
New hotels

Al Balad, the UNESCO heritage site in Jeddah’s historic district, has recently introduced three boutique hotels – Beit Jokhdar, Beit Al Rayess, and Beit Kedwan. These luxury hotels have been meticulously restored to preserve the original layout and architectural features of the historic buildings. While showcasing the old-world charm, the properties also offer modern amenities and a central restaurant serving authentic local cuisine at each of the hotels.
In addition, Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, has made its debut in the Middle East with a stunning location on a private island at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea. The resort offers 63 water and beach villas, ranging from one to four bedrooms, designed to seamlessly blend with the natural environment.
Guests can enjoy a range of facilities including a spa, swimming pools, various dining options, and a retail area. The resort, part of Red Sea Global’s megaproject, allows guests to explore the coral reefs and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Red Sea region.

Major events this summer
Saudi Arabia’s summer programme showcases a lineup of major events, including the inaugural Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh. Taking place from July 4 to August 25, 2024, the EWC features 22 events across 21 different video game titles. This competition brings together the world’s top esports athletes, offering the largest prize pool in esports history, exceeding $60 million.
In the province of Makkah, Taif’s King Khalid Racecourse is preparing to host summer race night series, spanning 13 weekends from Thursday, July 4th, to Saturday, September 28th. The event will feature thoroughbred and Pure Arabian night racing along with street food offerings, restaurants options, and live music entertainment on select evenings.
The Blaze marathon at the historic site of AlUla will be taking place on 24 August 2024. Participants can choose from four different distances: 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km. The inaugural Blaze race will provide runners with the opportunity to explore AlUla’s iconic landmarks, including Hegra and Maraya.
